This car is first introduced back in 1993, more than twenty years ago and now has reached the fifth generation of its production. This car is quite favourable in the international Asian market and has achieved its five million sales at the end of February 2010.
Fifth Generation Production
The fifth generation of Suzuki Wagon R started in 2012, and up till now, Suzuki is still producing this car. With all the trends of hybrid car and fuel efficiency vehicles, Suzuki also decides to add a mild hybrid car system in the latest generation of their Wagon R series. The mild hybrid system in Wagon R is called “ENE-CHARGE” which is short from energy charge and with a low power cabin cooling system.
Thanks to this technology, the Wagon R series can get up to 28 km/l marks or about 67 mpg in the US standard or 81 mpg in the UK standard. With this much fuel efficiency score, no wonder many people decide to buy this car aside from the plenty cargo and people space provided by the vehicle.
Aside from being famous back in Japan, Suzuki Wagon R turns out to be quite remarkable in the Asian market and the European market as a low budget family car. A various name knows the car series in different places around the world. In Europe, it is known as the Wagon R+ and is produced by the manufacturers in Hungary. In 2000, Wagon R+ replaced by Opel Agila, and the name stays until 2007.
In 2007 the Agila was replaced by Suzuki Splash. In Indonesia, this car first known as the Suzuki Karimun, which produced in a smaller build. Recently a Suzuki Karimun Wagon R series has been created in Indonesia with a built that is a bit larger than the usually small Karimun.
Engine and Specifications
The engine used in the various version of Suzuki Wagon R differs from series to series and country to country. There is the 600 cc engine for the Wagon R and 1000 cc engine for Maruti Wagon R. There are also two options of drivers for the Wagon R+, a 1200 cc engine and a 1300 cc engine. The engine type is a 1.0 litre 3 cylinder engine with 12 valves that combined with manual and auto transmission, all according to the consumer’s taste.
Compared to other cars in its class, Suzuki Wagon R is quite small, and the engine is a bit noisy. However, this low budget car is suitable for those who can only afford a little budget car to drive around the town or for those who need a vehicle for their new business.
